Marseille beat Strasbourg 3-1 in their Ligue 1 match on Saturday evening. The victory was all the more impressive given that it came after Marseille had been eliminated from the Champions League by Manchester United earlier in the week.

The match started with both teams looking to get off to a strong start, but it was Marseille who took the lead in the 28th minute through Dimitri Payet. The Frenchman scored his fourth goal of the season with a powerful shot from outside the box.

Strasbourg fought back though, and were level before half-time through a goal from Jonathan Ikoné. However, Marseille regrouped and went ahead again in the second half through a penalty from Benjamin Moukandjo.

Payet then added a third for Marseille just before the hour mark, before Ikoné pulled one back for Strasbourg late on. Despite the late goal, Strasbourg couldn't find a way back into the game and Marseille held on for a crucial win.

The result means that Marseille remain in the top four of the league table, and could potentially be promoted to Europe if they continue to perform well over the rest of the season. Meanwhile, Strasbourg will be disappointed not to have picked up any points against such a tough opposition.

Overall, it was another solid performance from Marseille, who showed their quality and determination throughout the match. They will now look to keep up their form as they continue to compete at the highest level in French football.
